Can an AI agent run your social media posting?
By Guy Hamilton, founder of PlatPost. Last updated .
The short answer
Yes, within limits you set. PlatPost gives your AI agent its own key to a remote MCP server. A new key can read your workspace and write drafts. It can schedule or publish only if you turn those rights on for that key.
One idea, three drafts
Story
I used to price jobs on the drive home, then sit on the quote for days. So I built the thing I needed.
Number
48 hours from job to quote. It is 4 minutes now, and [gap: how many quotes a week?]I send 20 a week.
Question
Sparkies: how many quotes did you lose last month because you sent them late?
What an agent can do
MCP is an open standard that lets an AI agent use a tool. Any agent that speaks MCP can connect to PlatPost.
With a key, an agent can read your calendar and your Business Brain, write drafts for you to review, and send you a message in the agent chat. With the extra rights switched on, it can also schedule and publish.
The limits, and why they exist
An agent runs in a loop and does not get tired, so every limit is a number, not a hope.
- A new key has read and draft rights only. Schedule and publish are opt-in for each key, because an agent that posts skips your approval.
- An agent acts only for its own workspace.
- There are daily caps on agent drafts and agent posts, and a cap on the number of keys.
- The agent tools have no file, code, database or shell access.
- PlatPost stores only a one-way hash of each key. Your setup reads the key from your environment, never from a project file.
How to set it up
The Agents page in the app has the exact setup lines for your agent.
- Open the Agents page and make a key.
- Choose its rights. Leave schedule and publish off until you trust the result.
- Copy the setup lines into your agent. The key is shown once.
- Ask your agent to draft posts. Review them in PlatPost as you would your own.
Questions people ask
- Which AI agents work with PlatPost?
- Any agent that speaks MCP, the open standard for agent tools. The Agents page lists the setup for common ones.
- Can an agent post without my approval?
- Only if you turn on the publish right for that key. A new key cannot schedule or publish.
- Is an agent key safe?
- PlatPost stores only a hash of the key, an agent acts only in its own workspace, and daily caps stop a loop. You can remove a key at any time.
