How do you connect GitHub Copilot to PlatPost?
By Guy Hamilton, founder of PlatPost. Last updated .
The short answer
Make an agent key on the Agents page in PlatPost, then add PlatPost to GitHub Copilot as an MCP server with that key. A new key lets GitHub Copilot read your Business Brain and write drafts for you to approve. GitHub Copilot schedules or posts only if you turn those rights on for its key.
Key facts
- Works with
- GitHub Copilot in VS Code.
- How it connects
- MCP over Streamable HTTP, at https://platpost.com/api/mcp, with your agent key in the Authorization header.
- A new key can
- Read the Business Brain, channels and posts, and write drafts for you to approve.
- Off until you turn it on
- Schedule posts, and publish posts at once.
- Daily caps for each workspace
- 100 agent drafts and 20 agent posts in 24 hours.
- Keys
- Up to 10 keys a workspace. PlatPost shows a key once and stores only a one-way hash of it.
One idea, three draftsPreview
Story
I used to price jobs on the drive home, then sit on the quote for days. So I built the thing I needed.
Number
48 hours from job to quote. It is 4 minutes now, and [gap: how many quotes a week?]I send 20 a week.
Question
Sparkies: how many quotes did you lose last month because you sent them late?
What can GitHub Copilot do in PlatPost?
GitHub Copilot in VS Code can use MCP servers in agent mode. VS Code asks for the PlatPost key once and stores it encrypted.
PlatPost gives it a small set of tools through MCP, and each tool does one job.
- Read your Business Brain: what you sell, who your customer is, your voice and your goal.
- List your connected channels, so it knows where you post.
- Read your recent posts with their status, text, schedule and live link, so it can match how you write.
- Write a post as a draft. You review it in PlatPost as you would your own.
- Upload an image, a GIF, a video or music that it made with its own tools. The file appears in the composer under From your agent.
- Send you a message in the agent chat on every page, and read your replies.
- With the schedule right on, schedule a post for a time up to one year ahead. With the publish right on, post at once.
How do I connect GitHub Copilot in VS Code to PlatPost?
Save as .vscode/mcp.json. VS Code asks for the key once and stores it encrypted.
- Open the Agents page in PlatPost and make a key. Leave schedule and publish off for now.
- Copy the key. PlatPost shows it once.
- Save the lines below as .vscode/mcp.json. VS Code asks for the key once, as a password, and stores it encrypted.
- Start agent mode in VS Code. The PlatPost tools appear in its tool list.
- Ask GitHub Copilot: "Read my PlatPost Business Brain and draft three posts about this week."

}Can GitHub Copilot post without my approval?
Not with a new key. A new key can read and write drafts only, and every draft waits for you in PlatPost.
You can turn on two more rights for one key: schedule posts, and publish posts at once. Each right is a separate choice, because an agent that posts skips your approval. On the Free plan, GitHub Copilot can read and draft, but it cannot schedule or publish until you choose a plan.
Is it safe to give GitHub Copilot a PlatPost key?
An agent runs in a loop and does not get tired, so every limit is a number in the code.
- PlatPost stores only a one-way hash of the key. Nobody can read the key back, PlatPost included.
- GitHub Copilot acts only in your own workspace. It cannot see another account.
- The tools have no file, code, database or shell access, and nothing the agent sends runs as code.
- A workspace takes at most 100 agent drafts and 20 agent posts in 24 hours, so a runaway loop stops at a number.
- You can remove a key on the Agents page at any time. The agent loses access at once.
What should I ask GitHub Copilot to do?
An agent works best with one clear job. These requests use only the tools above.
- "Read my PlatPost Business Brain and draft a post about the feature I just shipped."
- "Write a short X post and a LinkedIn post about this release. Keep both as drafts."
- "Upload the screenshot I made to PlatPost and attach it to a draft."
What if GitHub Copilot cannot connect?
Each line below names a case, and then what to do about it.
- GitHub Copilot says the key is missing. Set PLATPOST_KEY in the same terminal or app that runs it, then start it again.
- GitHub Copilot says the key is refused. The key was removed or copied wrong. Make a new key on the Agents page, because an old key cannot be shown again.
- GitHub Copilot cannot schedule a post. The key has no schedule right, or the workspace is on the Free plan.
- GitHub Copilot stops making drafts. The workspace reached 100 agent drafts in 24 hours. The count frees up as the day moves on.
Questions people ask
- Where does the PlatPost setup go for GitHub Copilot?
- Save the lines on this page as .vscode/mcp.json. VS Code asks for your PlatPost key once, as a password, and stores it encrypted.
- Can Copilot post about a release from my editor?
- It can write the post as a draft from your editor. You approve it in PlatPost, unless you turn on the schedule or publish right for its key.
- Does GitHub Copilot need a paid PlatPost plan?
- Not to read and draft. GitHub Copilot can read your Business Brain and write drafts on any plan. Scheduling and publishing need a paid plan.
- Does GitHub Copilot write in my voice?
- GitHub Copilot can read your Business Brain and your recent posts before it writes, so its drafts can follow your voice. You still edit and approve every draft.
- Can GitHub Copilot see my passwords or my other accounts?
- No. A key reaches only your own workspace, and the tools have no file, code, database or shell access.
- How do I stop GitHub Copilot?
- Remove its key on the Agents page. The agent loses access at once, and the drafts it already wrote stay in PlatPost.
- Does a post on X from GitHub Copilot cost the same as my own?
- Yes. A post on X that GitHub Copilot schedules or publishes takes the same X price from your wallet as a post you make yourself.
