How do you connect ChatGPT and Codex to PlatPost?

By Guy Hamilton, founder of PlatPost. Last updated .

The short answer

Make an agent key on the Agents page in PlatPost, then add PlatPost to ChatGPT and Codex as an MCP server with that key. A new key lets ChatGPT and Codex read your Business Brain and write drafts for you to approve. ChatGPT and Codex schedules or posts only if you turn those rights on for its key.

Key facts

Works with
ChatGPT and OpenAI Codex CLI.
How it connects
MCP over Streamable HTTP, at https://platpost.com/api/mcp, with your agent key in the Authorization header.
A new key can
Read the Business Brain, channels and posts, and write drafts for you to approve.
Off until you turn it on
Schedule posts, and publish posts at once.
Daily caps for each workspace
100 agent drafts and 20 agent posts in 24 hours.
Keys
Up to 10 keys a workspace. PlatPost shows a key once and stores only a one-way hash of it.

What can ChatGPT and Codex do in PlatPost?

ChatGPT and the OpenAI Codex CLI both speak MCP. Your own script can use the same address through the OpenAI Responses API mcp tool.

PlatPost gives it a small set of tools through MCP, and each tool does one job.

  • Read your Business Brain: what you sell, who your customer is, your voice and your goal.
  • List your connected channels, so it knows where you post.
  • Read your recent posts with their status, text, schedule and live link, so it can match how you write.
  • Write a post as a draft. You review it in PlatPost as you would your own.
  • Upload an image, a GIF, a video or music that it made with its own tools. The file appears in the composer under From your agent.
  • Send you a message in the agent chat on every page, and read your replies.
  • With the schedule right on, schedule a post for a time up to one year ahead. With the publish right on, post at once.

How do I connect ChatGPT in a web browser?

The Agents page has a Quick connect button for ChatGPT. It puts a setup prompt on your clipboard and opens ChatGPT in a new tab. Read the prompt before you send it.

The prompt never contains your key. It tells the agent to read the key from PLATPOST_KEY, and never to write the key into a file or back into the chat. These are the address and the header it names:

URL: https://platpost.com/api/mcp
Header: Authorization: Bearer <your key>

How do I connect OpenAI Codex CLI to PlatPost?

Add to ~/.codex/config.toml. Codex reads the key from PLATPOST_KEY.

  1. Open the Agents page in PlatPost and make a key. Leave schedule and publish off for now.
  2. Copy the key. PlatPost shows it once.
  3. Put the key in the environment variable PLATPOST_KEY on your computer. On Windows PowerShell, the variable is $env:PLATPOST_KEY.
  4. Add the setup below in the place this section names.
  5. Ask ChatGPT and Codex: "Read my PlatPost Business Brain and draft three posts about this week."
[mcp_servers.platpost]
url = "https://platpost.com/api/mcp"
bearer_token_env_var = "PLATPOST_KEY"

Can ChatGPT and Codex post without my approval?

Not with a new key. A new key can read and write drafts only, and every draft waits for you in PlatPost.

You can turn on two more rights for one key: schedule posts, and publish posts at once. Each right is a separate choice, because an agent that posts skips your approval. On the Free plan, ChatGPT and Codex can read and draft, but it cannot schedule or publish until you choose a plan.

Is it safe to give ChatGPT and Codex a PlatPost key?

An agent runs in a loop and does not get tired, so every limit is a number in the code.

  • PlatPost stores only a one-way hash of the key. Nobody can read the key back, PlatPost included.
  • ChatGPT and Codex acts only in your own workspace. It cannot see another account.
  • The tools have no file, code, database or shell access, and nothing the agent sends runs as code.
  • A workspace takes at most 100 agent drafts and 20 agent posts in 24 hours, so a runaway loop stops at a number.
  • You can remove a key on the Agents page at any time. The agent loses access at once.

What should I ask ChatGPT and Codex to do?

An agent works best with one clear job. These requests use only the tools above.

  • "Read my PlatPost Business Brain and write three post drafts for this week."
  • "Write an Instagram caption and a Facebook post about our offer. Save both as drafts."
  • "Look at my last ten posts and suggest three new topics I have not covered."

What if ChatGPT and Codex cannot connect?

Each line below names a case, and then what to do about it.

  • ChatGPT and Codex says the key is missing. Set PLATPOST_KEY in the same terminal or app that runs it, then start it again.
  • ChatGPT and Codex says the key is refused. The key was removed or copied wrong. Make a new key on the Agents page, because an old key cannot be shown again.
  • ChatGPT and Codex cannot schedule a post. The key has no schedule right, or the workspace is on the Free plan.
  • ChatGPT and Codex stops making drafts. The workspace reached 100 agent drafts in 24 hours. The count frees up as the day moves on.

Questions people ask

Does ChatGPT work with PlatPost?
Yes. The Agents page has a Quick connect button for ChatGPT. It puts a setup prompt on your clipboard and opens ChatGPT. Read the prompt before you send it.
How do I add PlatPost to the Codex CLI?
Add the PlatPost server to ~/.codex/config.toml with the lines on this page. Codex reads your key from the PLATPOST_KEY environment variable.
Can my own OpenAI script use PlatPost?
Yes. The OpenAI Responses API mcp tool takes the PlatPost address and your key in the Authorization header. Your script gets the same tools and the same limits as any agent.
Does ChatGPT and Codex need a paid PlatPost plan?
Not to read and draft. ChatGPT and Codex can read your Business Brain and write drafts on any plan. Scheduling and publishing need a paid plan.
Does ChatGPT and Codex write in my voice?
ChatGPT and Codex can read your Business Brain and your recent posts before it writes, so its drafts can follow your voice. You still edit and approve every draft.
Can ChatGPT and Codex see my passwords or my other accounts?
No. A key reaches only your own workspace, and the tools have no file, code, database or shell access.
How do I stop ChatGPT and Codex?
Remove its key on the Agents page. The agent loses access at once, and the drafts it already wrote stay in PlatPost.
Does a post on X from ChatGPT and Codex cost the same as my own?
Yes. A post on X that ChatGPT and Codex schedules or publishes takes the same X price from your wallet as a post you make yourself.
